Colonialism is the Virus
(live performance)

This live performance works with collective memory around the ongoing Covid-19 global pandemic, and invites us to reflecton the stark disparaties in how it is experienced in different parts of the world, as it is largely determined by the existing infrastructure and political realities of each region.
My recent trip to Bolivia (April- June 2021), where I was personally and directly impacted by this crisis, highlighted for me how in so many places in the global south, the disruptions to everyday life, the levels of danger and harm and the mixed emotions of hyper-alertness, sadness, loss and pandemic fatigue are all being intensified by the deeply precarious conditions. This felt like a completely different reality from where I currently live, Berlin-Germany, and I wanted to make space for these experiences and types of conversations.

I did a short version of this performance (duration of 6 minutes) live over Zoom as the final performance for the European Cultural Center's (ECC) course, Performing the Memory in October 2021.

On March 11th, 2022 I performed this piece live in front of the Bundestag in Berlin. The performance lasted exactly 24 minutes to mark the two-year anniversary of the pandemic, in which people have had such varying levels of vulnerability in regards to access to healthcare and other resources.
